Moth Pest Control

Moth Pest Control

Moths are the flying insects and they are also closely related to butterflies. Even though moths do not cause any significant harm to the human health, they are popularly known as pests as they cause damages to materials like clothes, carpets and other materials in your home. Moths are mainly responsible for the damages found on our cloths, carpets and bedcovers or sheets.That is how they grow their larva, by feeding off of our cloths, bedcovers and carpet materials, which essentially results in the large holes we find in our clothes and the damages found on our bedcovers and carpets.

They leave tell-tale holes, or small maggot-like larvae or silk cocoons. Even though moths and butterfly have a lot in common and are closely related, there are still quite a number of significant difference between them, such as the difference in their antennae; the antennae of a moth is feathery or saw-edged, compared to that of a butterfly. Two of the many things a butterfly and a moth have in common are the scales that covers their body and wings, these scales are actually modified hairs; and also, both Moths and butterfly both belong to the same order Lepidoptera. Moths also have a coiled proboscis and large compound eyes.

Moths get into our houses by flying through an open door or window or it can also get in accidentally when brought inside via infested plants, infested food products, on infested fabric items and on our clothing.

Health Concerns

In rare cases, moth’s bite marks can cause severe itching which may lead to some people harming their skin due to excessive scratching. Also the bite may cause allergic reactions.

Moth Control

Moths can be controlled and you can do it by yourself. But unfortunately, doing it by yourself doesn’t always guarantee much success due to the fact that pesticides bought over the counter for consumer purchase are not always necessarily effective to get rid of a Moth colony. These over the counter pesticide are not always customized to treat the particular species of Moth you may be having problems with. A professional pest control agency like us, using the adequate pesticide, will find the foraging Moth trails around your property which will then let us locate and eradicate the entire colony all at once, eliminating the need to use a pesticide inside the home.

Moth Species

Moths vary vividly in their look and their size, depending on the type of moth it is. Some moths may be massive while others may be tiny. Certain species of Moth are sparkling with colour of copper while others are grayish in browns or grey. Here are some of the common species of a moth;

Almond Moth:

The almond moth is also known as the tropical warehouse moth, are pests found in stored products. They are moths that infest flour, oats, bran, and other grains, including dried fruits. The Almond Moths belongs to the family of snout moths, and more specifically to the tribe Phycitini of the huge snout moth subfamily Phycitinae. This is the species that is often confused with the related Indian meal moth.

Armyworms:

these moths are also characterised into common armyworm found in the north and southern America, African armyworm found in Africa, fall armyworm north and southern America, lawn armyworm and northern armyworm, also known as oriental armyworm, found in Asia.

Bagworms:

This moth family of bagworm is fairly small with only around 1350 species. These set of Bagworm species can be found globally, with some, such as the snailcase bagworm, settling in continents where they are not innate in contemporary times.

Cankerworms:

These set of moths can be found in North America from Nova Scotia west to Alberta, south to Colorado and California. The larvae of cankerworms are also known as the loopers or inchworms and are considered as a stern pest of many tree species due to the fact that they can cause major defoliation in the growth of a new spring. .

Coneworms:

Coneworms, also known as the trumpet worms or the ice cream cone worms, are a family of marine polychaete worms that builds their tubes using grains of sand which has a similar shape with an ice cream cones or trumpets, hence where they got their name. These structures are sometimes up to 5 cm long.

Finally, we will apply a surface spray modified for the particular moth in question, and the spray is also is licensed and formulated for Moth control. This will be applied around the perimeter of your home or building.

How and where it will be done

During our initial service, we mainly focus on two areas in your home:

Exterior Service With our exterior service, we survey and pinpoint placement treatment of areas that are conducive for Moth infestation, and a spraying perimeter treatment will be applied to prevent future moth related infestations.

Important things to know.

Lastly, it is best to also take note of the follow;

1. When selecting a pest controller, be careful of those who finds it too easy to get an Australian Govt. Work Cover issued Pest Control Licence and start up a pest control business, using mostly unsupervised trainees who have little knowledge of Moth pest species or Moth control pesticides

2. People go for cheaper moth pesticide and this can be dangerous due to the fact that it will be less effective, can be a solvent based pesticides which can be acutely harmful in premises where occupants may suffer from asthmatic or other bronchial ailments.

3. With Ecofriendly Pest Control you can rest easy knowing that we are insured, we don’t take shortcuts, we adhere to Australian Standards, our quotes never changes and we stand behind our claims with a money back guarantee.

Frеԛuеntlу Asked Quеѕtіоnѕ

Q. What exactly is a Moth?

Moth are flying insects that are similar to butterflies.

Q. Why are they so hard to detect?

Well, we can actually find them if we know where to look, as their larva feeds on our clothing, especially woollen cloths. They are always very small with a very slow movement.

Q. How are they harmful to us?

Moth doesn't necessarily cause any health-related disease to man but are still very harmful, as they significantly harm our cloths, bedding, and carpets.

Remember that moths can be as harmful and as harmless as you let it.
